Should You Elope? Is an Elopement Right For You?

Is Elopement the Right Choice For You?

Well, MAYBE! So I would estimate that every single bride has had elopement cross their mind at least ONCE during the planning process. For some, its the frustration of composing a reasonable guest list when your mother in law wants to invite 300 of her closest friends and YOUR mother INSISTS that Aunt Terri will absolutely die if she doesn't get invited. (Yes, brides have told me about both of these situations). For others, its the anxiety of sharing such intimate moments with so many people they are not close to. Maybe its budget or anxiety that has you stressing the guest list, maybe you should just eff the list all together. If the cloud of panic fills your life moments after the happiness of "I just got engaged!" wears off, you may want to consider ELOPING.

Whatever your reason for considering elopement is, let me just encourage you to DO IT. You won't regret it!

If you elope, you won't have to stress about the fact that caterers charge $75 A PLATE. You won't have to worry about offending people by telling them that they can't bring their children. You won't need to choose between your dream dress and the bouquet of your dreams. You won't have to have a panic attack moments before the ceremony because you're terrified to read your vows in front of people.

An elopement lets you create the day of your dreams. (If your dreams don't involve 300 of your "closest" friends and family and a $45,000 price tag) You can have a super intimate ceremony with just you and your Love and a few witnesses. You can say your vows to the person you WROTE them to instead of stumbling over your words because 200 people you DIDN'T write the words to are listening.

Listen, there's NOTHING wrong with having a larger wedding, some of the most fun weddings I have ever been to were with over 100 people on the guest list! So if this is what you're looking for, definitely go for it. If you want a party, PLAN IT. DO IT.

But, I have anxiety. And I have met a LOT of brides with anxiety. Whether or not its the anxiety of planning a perfect day, or the anxiety of being in front of so many people, it can ruin what is supposed to be one of the most special days of your life. That's why I am such a big supporter of elopements! You can have a stress-free day that is totally about what a wedding should be about: You getting married. So often all of the stuff and fluff that goes into the perfect event can distract from a wedding's true meaning. It is YOUR big day, and it is for YOU and about YOU, and if other people take issue with that, well, its not ABOUT them or FOR them. They're being selfish. It is always lovely to include special people in your celebration of marriage, but if you want to have a simple ceremony with just you and your love, that's what you should do. You can ALWAYS have a party or small gathering to celebrate the fact that you guys got married, and include people that way!

guys, it all comes down to what you guys want out of your wedding. No way that you end up choosing will be the wrong decision if it is right for you two. And the people who love you, will support you. AND SO WILL I!!!
